01

Getting started

The basics of building a useful timeline.

What does Acne Risk do?

Acne Risk puts your food logs, skin observations, progress photos, and treatment changes on one timeline. It looks for patterns in your own history while keeping general food estimates separate from your observed relationship.

How do I get useful results?

Log food portions consistently and complete regular skin check-ins. The app needs both exposed days and comparison days, so ordinary days matter just as much as flare-up days. Treatment changes should also be recorded because they can affect the pattern.

How long does personalization take?

It depends on how often you eat a food and how complete your skin logs are. Fewer than five paired exposure days remains “Not enough data.” From five to eleven it can begin learning, while moderate confidence normally requires at least twelve paired days plus adequate comparison coverage and stable results.

Is Acne Risk medical advice?

No. Acne Risk is a self-tracking and informational tool, not a medical device, diagnosis, treatment, or substitute for a dermatologist or other qualified professional. Seek professional care for medical questions or concerning symptoms.

02

Understanding your estimates

What the badges and evidence actually mean.

What is a general estimate?

It is a shared, non-personal starting estimate based on available food characteristics, nutrition data, category information, and research context. It is not a claim about how your skin will respond.

What is “Your observed relationship”?

It is an observational association calculated only from your logged food and skin history using a fixed outcome window. It may still reflect treatment, stress, hormones, sleep, other foods, missing logs, or chance; it does not prove that a food caused acne.

What is a personalized estimate?

It is a conservative blend of the general estimate and your observed relationship. Personal evidence receives more weight only as sample size, skin-log coverage, comparison coverage, and stability improve. A single flare-up cannot immediately push the estimate to an extreme.

Why does a food say “Not enough personal data yet”?

The app does not yet have enough paired exposure and outcome days—or enough suitable comparison days—to describe a personal pattern responsibly. Keep logging; the general estimate remains visible in the meantime.

Why can an estimate change?

New food logs, skin observations, edits, deletions, and treatment changes can add or invalidate evidence. The current insight can update as your history grows, while historical score snapshots remain unchanged.

03

Logging food

Search, scan, save, and correct entries quickly.

How can I add food?

You can search your foods and connected catalogs, use recent foods, favorites, meal templates, barcode lookup, voice entry, meal-photo entry, or diary import. Food is always added to the date currently open in the log.

Where does food and nutrition information come from?

Search can combine your saved foods, the internal catalog, USDA FoodData Central, and Open Food Facts packaged-food data. Results vary by source and product, so nutrition values and matches should always be reviewed.

What if USDA search is unavailable or cannot find my food?

The app shows when USDA search is temporarily unavailable. Try a shorter description, search for the components separately, scan a packaged-food barcode, or create and save your own food. For a sandwich or mixed dish, logging the main ingredients separately often gives better nutrition detail.

Can I correct or undo a food log?

Yes. Open a logged food to edit its portion, use the remove control, or use the temporary Undo action after logging or deleting. You can also drag foods to reorder them within the log.

How do favorites, recents, and templates differ?

Favorites keep individual foods easy to reach. Recents prioritize foods and meals you actually use. Templates save a reusable group of foods and portions for recurring meals.

04

Skin tracking and photos

Private observations with useful context.

What can I record in a skin check-in?

You can record overall severity, lesion types and approximate counts, face or body locations, oiliness, redness, pain, healing, notes, morning or evening timing, and treatment or routine changes.

When does the evening check-in appear?

The automatic evening prompt appears after 8:00 PM. Morning and evening observations help the app avoid treating food eaten later in the day as a possible explanation for an earlier observation.

Are progress photos required?

No. Photos are optional and require separate consent. You can use skin tracking without enabling photo storage.

Who can see my progress photos?

Photos are stored privately for your account, hidden in the acne log until you choose to reveal them, and used in the comparisons and exports you request. They are not analyzed by AI, sold, or used for advertising.

Can I export or delete my photos?

Yes. You can export selected acne-log dates and choose whether to include photos. You can delete individual photos or all skin photos, and you can withdraw permission for future uploads separately.

05

AI features and plans

Optional shortcuts with review built in.

Which features use AI?

Voice food entry and meal-photo logging use AI processing. Personalized food-to-skin estimates do not use OpenAI or another generative model; those calculations are deterministic.

Does AI automatically save food to my log?

No. Voice and meal-photo results always open an editable review sheet. You must confirm the interpreted foods and portions before anything is logged.

What happens to voice clips and meal photos?

The selected clip or prepared meal image is sent through an authenticated backend function for transcription or interpretation. Acne Risk does not save that original AI input to your account. Provider-side processing is described in the Privacy Policy.

What are AI credits?

AI credits represent a monthly processing allowance, not cash or a transferable balance. Usage is metered by feature and processing consumed, and requests are blocked when the account or platform allowance is exhausted.

What remains available on the Free plan?

Core food logging, skin tracking, evidence views, and personal history remain available. Premium access can unlock the AI processing required for voice and meal-photo logging.

06

Privacy, exports, and support

Your account and your choices.

Is Acne Risk covered by HIPAA?

Acne Risk is a direct-to-consumer service, not a doctor, hospital, insurer, or service offered on behalf of one. Information in the app therefore may not be protected by HIPAA, although consumer privacy and health-data laws may still apply.

Can I access, correct, export, or delete my data?

Yes. Open My Profile → Privacy requests to request access, export, correction, deletion, or consent withdrawal. Individual food entries, skin observations, and photos also have in-product controls.

Does Acne Risk sell my data or use it for advertising?

No. The current Service does not sell personal information or consumer health data and does not use consumer health data for targeted advertising.

How do I report a bug or request a feature?

While signed in, open Feedback & requests from the account menu. Choose Bug or Feature request, describe what happened or what you would like, and track its status from the same screen.

Where can I read the full legal information?

Read the Privacy & Consumer Health Data Policy and the Terms & Medical Disclaimer. Those documents control if this FAQ and the legal terms differ.
